The company's transmission activities, mainly in the form of workshops, unfold according to specific axes linked to research work that questions transmission both in the creative act and the pedagogical act:
Contemporary dance
The pedagogical approach is based on the "Release" technique, though preference is given to the terms used by Doris Humphrey, "fall and recovery," in exploring the body’s response to gravity. A French culture of transmission is embraced here, which, while acknowledging the need for physicality, primarily explores the concepts of nuance, quality, and an analytical approach to movement. This approach allows for the emergence of sensation through a fine understanding of initiation points and the "accuracy" of execution in the interplay between weight and tonicity. Particular attention is given to the skeletal system and deep musculature. Complex proposals in terms of coordination and musicality further enrich the body’s development by stimulating the neuromuscular system.
Movement and Physical Phenomena
A research and transmission axis of movement through the prism of physical phenomena and associated terms as a support for the emergence of movement and its sensitive perception. Questions addressed:
- Exploring the boundary between controlled or voluntary movement and the initiation of a physical phenomenon that traverses the body and leads it into a kinetic proposition.
- Reflection on the establishment of a pedagogical protocol that promotes the honesty of movement and develops a democratic platform where all levels can coexist and even harmonize.
This class is the only regular one of the company, currently given every Monday at Cumana studio in Athens. Please to contact me for further information.
Body and Sound/ a scoring approach
Research that unfolds through several axes:
- Analysis of musical scores (traditional, graphic, etc.) as a support for choreographic writing in a possible translation of time and space indications.
- Exploration of different media (books, site investigations, etc.) and their translation into scores as a basis for choreographic writing.
- Use of scores as a support for collective improvisation and instant composition.
Indian Classical Dance and Contemporary Dance: Questioning the Fundamentals
Choreographic workshops and courses offered with the aim of:
- Developing an analytical capacity of the fundamentals of a dance.
- Introducing the public to the rhythmic, aesthetic, and cultural characteristics of Indian dance to more broadly question the heritage of classical and traditional dances in a contemporary context.
- Offering elements (expressivity, gestures, compositions) that promote technical and artistic enrichment.
- Encouraging an intimate appropriation of repertoire elements to integrate them into a writing dynamic.
Transmission of Kathak Dance to a Western Audience
- Adapting an Indian tradition of transmission to a Western audience in terms of course structure, movement analysis, and terminology used.
- Rethinking the transmission of Kathak dance (repertoire and techniques) using learning tools derived from contemporary dance.
